Mercedes 280ce m110

Hi I need some help with a w114 280ce (m110 engine D-jet) the car starts easy and drives well except it will hesitate/misfire momentarily sometimes when under light load or cruising. When accelerating it’s not a problem.

I have changed the spark plugs, leads, cap, rotor arm, blue resistor, condenser, and points. Checked the coil and it’s within spec. The valves have been adjusted to spec also the distributor timing , the throttle switch (TPS) has also been cleaned and is working correct. It’s making the 20clicks with the ignition on.

Any further help would be appreciated to make it run perrrrfect
Thanks

As a first test:
1) Disconnect & plug the vacuum advance connection to the distributor.
2) Set the ignition timing to ~35* BTDC @ 3500 RPM.
3) Go for a drive; has the light load/cruising misfire changed?

djet has a problem with the throttle position sw burning through at steady speed. need a scope to confirm it but it sounds like that part of the winding in the switch are burnt or broken.

Thanks for the suggestion above…it turned out to be the trigger points they were wet with oil, I’m surprised they were working as good as it was considering.

Hi I took the trigger points out and they were caked in oil (I’m surprised they worked as well as they did with the amount of oil on them.) All much better now after a good clean.

Thanks all for the helpful tips
