Cooling fan blows fuses
My 88 260e was overheating badly. It gets hot and spits water out from under the battery. At first I thought it was a bad heater core hose, but after reading the forum I realized that was the overflow tank. Anyway, the cooling fan fuse blew, which I believe it was made the car overheat. I put in a new 8 amp fuse, which blew within 10 seconds. After that I put in a 16 amp fuse, and it has yet to blow. Is there any reason why it would do that? Bad fan? Also, I believe it is still losing coolant from the tank, although I can't understand why, because the temperature gauge says it's right where it should be. Also, the low coolant light is staying on, although it's full. Any help would be great, it's driving me nuts!

16 amps is standard for MBZ aux fans; it's no wonder you were blowing fuses. If you are losing coolant and temps are OK, I would change the radiator cap (make sure it's OEM).

Yes change cap. If weak, it allows coolant to boil at 212. A good cap raises boiling to approx 235. Low coolant level means that there's air in the system. Should be a bleeder fitting on the thermostat housing to "burb" the air from the block.

Yeah, but on the fuse chart it says to use 8 amps. Which blow instantly. Thanks though, since I put the 16 amp in it runs cooler. Still losing fluid out of the overflow tank, i'm thinking maybe a broken hose. I'll definitely try that new cap though. Thanks!

Aux fan circuits on that chassis are fuse #7/16A for relay and fuse #D/16A for Fan motor...
