300cd seat adjustment?

Hello everyone,
I have recently bought a 79 300cd. I am still getting familiar with this nice machine. I have a few basic problem. How do I adjust the seat height. The lever on the side is very stubburn and it doesn't seem to make the seat go up or down. Also do the headrest suppose to move forward to better accomodate my head? It looks like it can be adjusted. I have the owners manual but it is not doing me any justice. Thanks to everyone.
