Put your model and YEAR in your "signature" (User CP) and we'll know which trans you have.

Trans leak, 94 E 320 Coupe
Sorry about not including specific info.
Car has been sitting 2 months while I putter with new water pump and other things. Huge trans leak. After several times of cleaning the area, determined its one of the "seals" on the right side of the transmission. |

Pretty certain that has a 722.3 which I know little about.
Perhaps you can pick the offending part from the list to help someone else help you. http://detali.ru/cat/oem_mb1.asp?TP=1&F=124052&M=104%2E992&GA=722369&VIN=%2A&CT=GA&Cat=09T&SID=27 Other than the dip stick tube, most everything else is on the left side of that trans.

It is a 722.3 but the answer is still it depends. Somethings can be done on the car, others not, need to find out exactly what it is - e.g. B1 piston seal, B2 piston seal.

The front piston cover has quite a bit of spring pressure behind it. It can be done in the car but I WOULD NOT recommend it unless you have a lift, a friend to help, and infinite patience. The second cover isn't nearly as difficult and if that one is your leaker then I'd say go for it.

I'm tossing this web site in this thread for reference: http://www.peterschmidtransmission.com/
It has diagrams of the transmission.
