w124 drivers door window regulator problem
Car: 1987 300E w124
Problem: window started making noise (driver's door) when it was about 1/2" from the top. Pulled the door panel off and the last 2 teeth on the window regulator were ground down to almost nothing. I have sourced a replacement in a junkyard and will be going tomorrow to take it out. However, I read the manual on the MB service CD to take it out and it talks about "microencapsulated" screws and them needing to be replaced. Is there any information on this, because I have no idea what the hell that means? Also, as far as removing the drivers side window regulator, what am I going to be dealing with as far as taking it out of the junked car (mention was made in other posts about putting the window down, an option I don't have with this car)? Thanks for your help.

I have no idea what those "microencapsulated screws" are, but I have heard of the motor getting loose from the regulator causing the the gears to not line up and then grind down. Check to make sure that the motor is at the proper angle to the regulator gear.
Good Luck. |

There's an article in the "how to" section on this board. One thing I'd add would be after you unbolt the 3 motor nuts, push the motor away from the car (so the bolts are not their holes) and drop the whole window assembly down about 2-3 inches. There is a hole to the right of the door handle where can unfasten the window retainer, slide off the arm, then push the window back up and tape/block it into place. Then you can undo the rest of the assembly easily.
