Fit the shock into place before you cut the retaining strap. Then get the strap out of there.

Done!
I got the shock in place and cut the strap, the end of the shock came through the opening about 6",forgot to put the bottom washer, rubber on! With the shock extended it took about 2 minutes to pull out,put on the washer and rubber and bolt on.

w126 rear shocks
All I can tell anyone that has to do rear shocks is that it is "gravy". I wish i could have documented my journey with photo's,but I cannot. I would like any tips on the front though.

easy job
the front shocks are even easier to replace, about 10 minutes each with a lift.
