Hi my name is Richie. I have just recently purched a really nice 88 mercedes that is a 1988 with only 89k on it. I am have a problem when in gear the motor shake back and forth. I took it to the Mercedes dealer hjere in NY. They told me I need a fuel distributor, the #6 cyl. is have a problem. I want to purchase a used one and install it. My friend told me to be careful because there is a gear under the distributor and you have to line it up. If you dont ythe fuel will not be sent at the right time. Does anyone know about this or maybe have some directions on how to change this item. Thank you for reading my question.

Before you do anything, do a search on the OVP...
Common problem and much cheaper than a fuel distributor...Worth to look at.

Over Voltage Protection relay. - OVP
Your engine mounts may require replacing. There is a damper at the front of the engine whose rubber may have gone or the damper might be faulty. There is a small gasket between the Fuel distributor and AFM, this should be replaced. If replacing the fuel distributor, the fuel injection system should be professionally setup again |

there is really a third hand involved in dropping the distributor back on with a new gasket, the 3rd hand of course sets the gasket in place as the other two drop dist. and gently displaces injector hoses.
