300TE vs 190E 2.6 transmissions

The transmissions are interchangable, but will they work after?

The 300E transmission I just pulled (little/no forward) has a solenoid at the rear (kickdown) and a round connector on the side. It takes a speedo cable, not the fancy electric pickup.

The 190E 2.6 transmission I have handy has the same rear solenoid and the same round connector on the side. BUT, it also has an extra gizmo on the driver's side that has a pair of hard lines coming from it. The 722.x manual I found shows it to be a "sift point retard" solenoid.

I doubt I can just leave the connection to the retard solenoid off and the thing will "just work". Mercedes doesn't build things with spare parts like that.

So, what does this little extra do (so I know what won't be working right) and can I work around it?

Thx -CTH
