93 300e-2.8 how much oil
i was surprised at the DIY section and the topsider technique. i already have the motorized jcwhitney siphon so i'm all set to do my first oil change. already have my MB filter but still don't have a manual, so can someone fill me in on the oil capacity?
TIA |
8 quarts
|
Yes, Stan is right, 7.9 quarts.
Some sources say that it holds 7.4 quarts, but it's 7.9. So 8 is fine, but check it (when warm) before you dump the 8th quart in because you don't want to overfill the crankcase, that can lead to problems! |
Whoa!! is the 2.8 eight cylinders?
|
Joel,
Are you drunk!?  ;) I'm just playing. ;) Please reread and then 'reiterate' what you are trying to say! But it is the 2.8 liter 6 cylinder engine. |
i know it is 6 cylinders!! so why 8, my 3.0 only takes
6 liters (6.3 US quarts)! educate me, please! |
The book on my 6 cylinder - E320 says 7.9 quarts but if you do a filter and oil change and put 7.9 quarts it is going be overfilled. It takes 6.5 quarts to get it in the middle of the marks on the dipstick.

i figured if i picked up a couple of the gallon castrol gtx containers i would be ok. turns out just barely...
thanks everyone |
i did an oil and filter change using my jcwhitney "topsider" and have dumped 7 quarts in and it just barely clears the plastic at the "min" mark so i guess it really is 7.9 on the w124 with the 104 engine - at least on my '93 2.8 it is. i'm gonna check it again tomorrow once i get it outside...
