93 300e-2.8 how much oil

i was surprised at the DIY section and the topsider technique. i already have the motorized jcwhitney siphon so i'm all set to do my first oil change. already have my MB filter but still don't have a manual, so can someone fill me in on the oil capacity?
TIA

8 quarts

David C Klasse 09-06-2001 11:44 PM

Yes, Stan is right, 7.9 quarts.
Some sources say that it holds 7.4 quarts, but it's 7.9. So 8 is fine, but check it (when warm) before you dump the 8th quart in because you don't want to overfill the crankcase, that can lead to problems!

Whoa!! is the 2.8 eight cylinders?

David C Klasse 09-07-2001 12:06 AM

Joel,
Are you drunk!?  ;) I'm just playing. ;)
Please reread and then 'reiterate' what you are trying to say! But it is the 2.8 liter 6 cylinder engine.

i know it is 6 cylinders!! so why 8, my 3.0 only takes
6 liters (6.3 US quarts)! educate me, please!

The book on my 6 cylinder - E320 says 7.9 quarts but if you do a filter and oil change and put 7.9 quarts it is going be overfilled. It takes 6.5 quarts to get it in the middle of the marks on the dipstick.

i figured if i picked up a couple of the gallon castrol gtx containers i would be ok. turns out just barely...

thanks everyone

i did an oil and filter change using my jcwhitney "topsider" and have dumped 7 quarts in and it just barely clears the plastic at the "min" mark so i guess it really is 7.9 on the w124 with the 104 engine - at least on my '93 2.8 it is. i'm gonna check it again tomorrow once i get it outside...
