1980 SE, Chassis W126?

I went to my sister in law's house yesterday and as soon as I pull up I see a nice looking 280 SE sitting in their driveway. I didn't know they even had one.
The sister in law tells me they want to sell it. They have been dumping money into it for a while and it still needs a lot more things fixed. A couple of things they mentioned was it needs a new head gasket and some "hard to get to" water bypass hose. The car is a Euro with no visible rust at all. The body is in excellent shape other than some of the clear coat is starting to peal away on the roof and hood. The interior isn't too bad other than some of the wood trim will need redoing.

The questions/advice:

Is this a W126 chassis?
Did this year span use clear coat over the paint?
About what should the price range be?
Does this engine have ha history of bad heads?

The car has been sitting for awhile now, not sure how long. They live in a restricted neighborhood and it doesn't have a tag on it, so they have it backed up close to their garage so no one will complain about it. They need for it to go. Would love any input on this car, wether I should even think about getting it. It sure looks nice to me!

Yes, it's a W126. No, it's not base coat/clear coat from the factory.

You could rebuild the head, needs a few special tools and lots of cussing. The cams, distributor and pistons make a euro motor special. The intake setup is also different.

I was going to say that with a head gasket problem the car has a negative value. You do the labor and you can still break even.
