Guys need some pre purchase advice

I found an 85 300d with 180K on the clock.

The Good

The body is completely straight, all the trim pieces are there and in good condition with the exception of the grill which has part of the plastic broken around the hood release.

The engine fires straight away and don't even need to wait for the plugs although our daytime high is over 100 right now. Arizona. However feels anemic, prolly needs valve adjust, IP purge, filters etc..

Transmission shifts well although 1-2 is a little abrupt.

There are no oil leaks!!!!

THe engine compartment is VERY clean.

The bad.

Paint has oxidized on the hood and overall is dull.

The finish on the wheels is shot but they are not curbed

AC not functioning

HVAC blower motor not functioning

rear windows not functioning

sunroof not functioning

cracked dash and cracked instrument cluster.

antenna doesn't retract all the way.

I think those are the major issues. I am contemplating trying to rehab this car but seller wants 1600. I think its worth 1K and will need lots of work. Maybe 2K plus. The car might be worth 4500-5K if it were brought back.

Hey bud not to be rude or anything but your in the wrong section post them at the diesel disscussion section ... according to your discription that car is only worth $750-$800 and resale value is $2500 to $3500 is probally the most you can make off not much ppl like diesel because of the price of diesel fuel... if you do the math you going to make a little pocket money repairs including the price of the car is going to be 2.5K for repairs and parts... anyways good luck...

Pretty common issues for the W123. AC and sun roof can be bears to make right and the AC will still be weak even so. Other issues are easy. No oil leaks IS uncommon.

I have a hard time believing AC and some paint make it worth $5k tho.
