Whinnying 1986 300E

My car has this whine when I push the gass peddle just alittle, when I push it down more it stops, it sounds like a small pump. Any thoughts? It sounds like it is coming from under the left side of the dash.

It sounds like a worn bearing, check the guide pulleys from the belt. Take the belt off and spin the pulleys. It can be an other bearing as well.(alternator fan bracket etc)

But it only does it when I put just alittle pressure on the gas peddel, when in gear and not in gear.

If a bearing starts to fail it usually makes noise at specific rpm.

It sounds like it is coming from under the drivers side dash, I will look again today. Thanks.

It's possible you could be hearing noise from a small vacuum leak - you might try temporarily blocking off the vacuum line to the climate control system to see if the noise goes away.

Does the vacume line go to the back of the climate control system? Can you test the vacume from the glove box access?

The answer is yes and yes, but it probably is easiest to get to the main line from under the hood - there is a "Y" coming from engine vacuum, one goes to the door system, the other to the heat/AC system. Just try pulling one line and plugging it - if the doors still lock you've probably got the right one. (There is also a line that goes to the vacuum reservoir, but I think it's further down the line, on the door vacuum side.)
