removing carbon from pistons

Will be removing both heads from my 420 as soon as i get the tool i orded to remove head bolt from under cam shaft.My question is two fold,will the timming chain with sprocket attched fit through head or do i mark chain to sprocket and remove sprocket? Also how do i remove carbon from top of pistons or should i leave them alone?
