2005 C230 E-brake Won't Release Completely

My daughter's C230 (2005 W203 Series) is turning out to be a bit delicate. The interior front passenger side door handle broke (another thread) and now the emergency brake won't release fully. I thought it was the pedal mechanism to actuate the emergency brake, and bought another mechanism. As I went to install it I noted the old mechanism seems fine, it is just that when you release the brake, the cable to the rear drum brakes does not go back into the sleeve and gets bent around in an "S" shape, preventing the pedal from returning fully.

Anyone know how these brakes are adjusted? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jim

Unfortunately, an adjustment won't fix your problem. If you remove the rear seat bench you can gain access to the parking brake release spring by removing the access cover. You'll probably find the spring covered in rust. You can try cleaning and lubing it but that's usually just a temporary fix.

I will go after that this weekend or the next time the daughter visits. Thanks for the tip - sounds like an attempt to fix something by enclosing it turned out to be worse than just leaving it out in the open. Thanks again, Jim
