I just bought a 1987 300E and it is running like it has water in the gas. What it does is run out well, when I stop at a redlight when I go to take off it will not go and almost goes dead. It will do this going down the road sometimes, when I let off the gas and apply again it will pick back up.
Also it shifts into rev hard unless i have the brakes on hard, really pushed. Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks. Also I let someone talk me into using "Seafoam" for my Benz. Was this stupid or OK? Last edited by elewis; 11-10-2008 at 09:50 AM. Reason: Adding more information |

I have an '87 300E also. Put 110K on it over 9 years. Wonderful car! Even with 203K on it now, I would not hesitate to take off across the USA.
I had the same problem with starting from a stop. Believe it or not, it was the coil! Hope this helps. Anziani '87 300E 203K '95 E420 112K |

Vacuum leaks can cause all sorts of havoc, including shifting issues. Have you checked all the rubber?
