.020'' wear on 1984 190e camshaft lobe
Hi all. Great forum and many excellent contributors. Thanks to everyone.
So I am changing a head gasket on my friends 190 and of course AFTER I take the head to the shop to be checked and for new valve guides I notice that there is some wear (.020 by my measurement) on the #2 intake lobe. Everything else looks good to go.My questions are : 1) Will a used cam and rocker assemblies from a 85-93 2.3 work? I noticed that the sellers online make the distinction for the '84 cam from the rest. 2) If yes, should I use the original chain sprocket or get the one from the donor car? 3) Is this enough wear to worry about? BTW, the engine # is 102 961 12 036 508. Thanks in advance for your help. |

The only difference in M102 camshafts is profile for emissions.
Yes you can swap the cam & rocker arms from later engines. The 1988 & later engine use a double row chain & the gear won't work.

Thanks for the quick reply M.B. DOC. This will be much easier to find than a "1984 only "cam and rockers.
