Brake Light
Hello out there!
I have a brake light on, the one for pads not fluid. It first started flickering when I was on the freeway and now it's on all the time. Problem is, I had the brakes checked and the pads have 25% left on all 4 wheels. Any thoughts? 1990 420 SEL Thanks |

I could describe how the brake pad light works but it would take some time. The short answer to your question is YES.
This is set up so you will have plenty of warning that your pads need replacing. In some parts of the world you may be 600 miles from the nearest dealer. Make sure you order the brake pad warning wires when you order new brake pads. The dealers sell these cheap and they should always be replaced when you do the front brakes. It is also possible that someone has replaced the brakes with pads that did not have holes for the warning wires and drilled their own so they are in the wrong place. Pooka |

What he said. The pads start out at about 12mm thick and the sensor trips at about 3.5 mm, so you can do the math, but that is around 25% give or take.

When your rotors are worn the lip contacts the sensor sooner than it would if the rotors weren't worn.
