anyone change a 124 pitman arm seal in the car?
Looks like I need a new pitman arm seal. I read dpetryk's fabulous write-up. Seems like something I'll look forward to in retirement. For now, I just want to keep PS fluid off the control arm bushings :/
Is it possible to pry off the old seal without pulling the pitman arm shaft? If not, it looks like I can drop the pitman arm shaft without pulling the box. Has anyone done that? cross-posted in Diesel discussion forum Thanks, Sixto 87 300D |
I've done it on older cars. Why would you "drop" the shaft? The pitman arm itself must be removed, the shaft can stay.

It can be done. 2 things to know.... use electrical tape over the splines to protect the new seal and A properly sized piece of PVC pipe makes a great seal install tool (make sure to cut it longer than the pitman arm;))
