Help with a Climate Control Problem

Hi all.. Im just purchased another C280. Its a 99 and Im trying to fix a few items. But currently, its cold and I need heat thru the center vents...

The Climate Control will NOT allow selection of the center vents. When I depress the selector button, it allows upper & lower arrows only. How do I select the middle arrow for the center vents. Currently, I have no air from the center vents.

I have not pulled the control valve to test the vacuum elements yet. Hoping that I dont have leaking elements..
I replaced the elements on my 95 C280 and it was a pain... Will the 99 C280 climate control unit block out a selection if the element(s) are bad??

Thanks for any assistance here..

That car isn't designed to put heat thru the center vents.

Only out the footwells & defroster ducts.

The W140 chassis can direct heated air thru the center vents & any other model with red & blue buttons on the center vent.

Great, my 99 C280/W202 chassis has red & blue buttons just like in the picture.

Now, how do I get the selector to do like the picture??
I get the up and down arrows to display but not the center arrow...

Maybe Im not doing something special. Can you reset the unit?

ScottyP or anybody, how do you get to the front passenger side vac elements on the 1995 C280?

Also I'd like to know how to test the elements via the control valve, wherever that is located..
