Another Oil question.
Is there any way to tell if your oil has been changed?
The reason I ask this is. That about 2 years ago I paid a local mechanic to change my oil, and then just last week I asked him to change it for me. He said he didn't have a pump to get the oil out of the engine. So how did he get it out before? Thats why I'm asking if there is any way to find out if the oil had been changed.

It is a little hard to say. You can send a sample to Blackstone but that costs a little bit. If you were suspicious BEFORE they did the work then there might be some things you could do. I had a friend with the same suspicion. I looked at her car and the oil filter cap had undisturbed dirt film on it. And the oil looked pretty dark for new oil, but that is not a scientific test. This is why I try to do all my own work. I figure I will screw it up some times, but still less than a "pro" will screw it up, and then at least I know who to blame, and I know exactly what was done and what wasn't done. That is the value of DIY.

He could have lifted the car and drained the oil at the pan. Just take it somewhere else and have it done on a regular basis.

Go get a filter, oil catch basin, a couple wrenches and some Mobil 1 and do it yourself. You should change the oil at least once a year even with synthetic oil.
Do it yourself and you will not only know that you have done it right, when it was done, and that the right oil and filter was used, but you will feel the satisfaction of a job well done...

I was going to change the oil myself, bought all the stuff and then I found out there is no oil drain plug. The oil has to be pumped out of the engine. I have a 2002 clk 320.

Did you look at the oil pan? I've never seen a 320 without a drain plug but maybe yours is different.

You have an oil drain plug - on the side of the oil pan, passenger side, near the front.

Even still you can get those pumps that pump the oil out the dipstick hole for $30 or so, makes oil changing even easier and less messy. It doesn't require anything fancy to accomplish. Can even make your own for even cheaper.
