Transmission & computer
Hello out there!
I have a 2000, 320 CLK I was having transmission problems where off the start it was revving and then engaging. My mechanic said the oil smelt burnt, and did a trans service and replaced the harness to the computer which he said was full of oil. Appearently the seal around the connector to the harness leaked and the trans fluid went up to the computer and was causing check engine light to come on and faulty signals to the trans. He blew out the computer connector and R&R harness. It works fine now but he says its just temporary and the computer is about to go any time...does this sound right? I thought electrical problems were either good, bad or intermittent?

I'm not sure if anyone can tell for sure if you'll have problems. I'd suggest just drive it for awhile and see. BTW, an Schedule A or Schedule B service includes inspecting for issues such as this. If you're not doing it yourself you might want to find an MB independent tech who can.

Mr Foam,
If he blew (or the connectors are oily)out the oil from the pockets of the connectors, their is still plenty of oil left. The key is to pop the case plastic welds at the edge of the case shell on the center on both sides.. Most shops do not like to repair deal with this, but to sell you a four-figure module. The module can cleaned with a large can spray contact cleaner. Basically applying 8 to 12 heavy applications of the cleaner, and blotting the exposed circuit board in between applications to wick-up the cleaner. The goal is not to let the cleaner evaporate, but to wick-it-up. The last application. let the board dry overnight..
