How do i disassemble Blower Motor?
I would like to clean it up and replace the brushes.
My concern is the plastic blower. |

I just bought a used blower motor assembly ($75 shipped). I tried to disassemble the old one without breaking it and was unsuccessful. The squirrel cage is attached in a way that can't be pried off or drilled off and the other side of the motor is attached by a press fit. If you hold it in a vice you can probably use a cold chisel and knock the cap off, but I don't see how you could remove the squirrel cage without breaking it.
EDIT: The plastic housing in your first pic comes off easily by removing the screw and pushing the motor though the hole until it comes out, but that's where easy stops. ![]()

Here's a thread that discusses this:
Rebuilt my 300TD fan motor today Looks like he took the back cover off like I thought would need to be done. He filed the points off the press fit and removed the cap to pull everything out and get to the brushes.

When I had my motor out, I just released the brushes from the motor by lifting them out of the holders after pulling the keeper springs out of the way.
Pulling the squirrel cage fan just requires a couple blocks of wood to support the edges of the fan while leaving the motor off the ground, and a few taps with a punch on the motor shaft, to tap the motor down out of the fan cage. It's just a friction fit, and at least for mine it came loose fairly easily once I figured that out.

On the original blower motor assembly that was in my 1985 300TD, the squirrel cage has a solid dome, not an open design like the one in 420 benz's pic.
The solid dome has a single hole drilled in it which I figured was for removing the cage in the manner you just described. I didn't punch the shaft first as you describe, I just supported the edges of the cage (with the motor hanging) and tried tapping out the motor with a thin drift. This is when my cage first cracked. I guess I should have tried punching the shaft first, but I thought it would tighten the connection.

why not just replace the motor you can get one from autohauzaz for $73 I would think better then trying to install make shift brushes.. you will have a new motor your good for another 100k just my opinion.. use ATF to lube the bearing works great.

squirrel cage removal
I successfully did this recently. The shaft is just a tight fit in the blower and can be driven out with a punch. The brushes can be top loaded but the loading spring must be tied back and released after brush is in.

I'm in the middle of this, decided to replace the motor as the brushes are almost gone, the commutator is seriously worn down, and the bearings are not freeing up with lubricant. Fans come off easily with the smallest 3 jaw puller that Autozone will lend to you ($30 deposit). If your wiling to spend an additional ~$150
