c220- removing center shifter console, how?

I've got a 1994 C220 and the kids broke the drivers side power window switch. Now that I've got a replacement switch, I can't figure out how to remove the wooden trim plate that encompasses the shifter/windows shifter. I thought it might be friction fit, but it looks to be on pretty tight (since I don't see any screws) I'm also afraid of breaking the wood. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Chandra

Thanks..but I got the wood around the shifter gate off with a bit of force, it didn't break as I was afraid it was going to. Now I find the kids broke the plastic piece that keeps the switch in place...if I can't glue plastic piece into the correct position, I assume I am out of luck and need to find a junk yard?

Thanks,
Chandra

Chandra,
I'd assume you can buy just the harness that the wiring connects to...? Isn't it just the plastic peice that the switch fits into that is broken? Look for a part number on that peice...!
