C230 (W202) Headliner Renewal

M-B WIS states removal of the right front door is required to install a new headliner in this vehicle. Anyone had a go at this before? Is door renewal absolutely required? Thanks.

1 piece headliners are long & dont bend. Removal of at least 1 door is required to R & R the headliner.

Was able to easily renew headliner, without removing the right front doofr, by doing the following:

1. Remove rear seat cushion.

2. Remove front seat headrests; move front seat bottoms to lowest position; lower seat backs to horizontal position.

3. Remove center console assembly (total of 6 screws); position gear selector lever to "1".

4. Remove right front door check strap and open door to 90 degrees.

With the assistance of another person, the headliner can then be inserted directly into the vehicle with little effort.

This eliminates the hassle of aligning the front door after it is re-hung.
