Recomended Diff Cover Sealant
The MB differentials do not use a gasket on the rear cover. Does MB have a sealant part number for this application. Or can anyone recommend a good sealant for the differential cover on a 1996 SL600.

ON all metal to metal surfaces MB recommends their sealer made by Loctite.
Their spec is either Loctite 5900 or 5960. silicon based sealer. |
In addition to MB.DOC recommendation I suggest to use genuine
OEM Mercedes Silicon Gasket Surface Sealant MB Part #A003-989-98-20-10 http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/p...de/sealant.jpg http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/p...e/SEALANT1.jpg http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/p...e/SEALANT2.jpg |
FYI only..........
MB part number 003-989-98-20-10 is Loctite 5960...& that is the same formula as Loctite 5900. just like generic drugs, you might get the same product for LESS $$$ Buying OE is smart, but saving $$$ buying the same product is smarter! |
5900 will seal your mother-in-law's lips shut. good stuff.

I ordered that one on E-Bay. It's basically 1/2 the retail price. The Loctite 5900 I could only find in large tubes for about $50.
