Recomended Diff Cover Sealant

The MB differentials do not use a gasket on the rear cover. Does MB have a sealant part number for this application. Or can anyone recommend a good sealant for the differential cover on a 1996 SL600.

ON all metal to metal surfaces MB recommends their sealer made by Loctite.

Their spec is either Loctite 5900 or 5960. silicon based sealer.

FYI only..........

MB part number 003-989-98-20-10 is Loctite 5960...& that is the same formula as Loctite 5900. just like generic drugs, you might get the same product for LESS $$$

Buying OE is smart, but saving $$$ buying the same product is smarter!

I ordered that one on E-Bay. It's basically 1/2 the retail price. The Loctite 5900 I could only find in large tubes for about $50.
