Can anyone tell me what this is
As I was pulling the cylinder head on my '91 300CE I bent a pipe that I had not noticed that was still attached. The pipe goes from the water pump, under the intake manifold, where it was bolted, to what I think is part of the cruise control. The pipe might be salavageable, but I thought that I wouldn't take the chance. I ordered the coolant pipe from the heater exchange to the coolant pump but that was the wrong one. Can anyone tell what I need?

PIcture??

I'll try to get some soon.

jmerc6, the line you bent is a coolant line which runs under the intake manifold to the oil cooler, according to my Haynes Manual. Be sure to replace the O-ring where it attaches to the water pump.

Okay. I've got the picture, but I don't know how to load from my computer to the message board.

Thanks for the guidance. Here's the pic. When I looked that the coolant pipe at Allexpress, it doesn't look like the same pipe. |

Thanks, I'll call and order the part today!

That's a beefy steel pipe, and coolant pressures don't get above 16psi. I seriously doubt you have damaged it enough to really need a replacement. As long as you can get it back to its original shape and the ends mate properly, I'd say keep it.

I had to cut off the intake mounting bracket. Do you think that there would be a vibration problem?
|
Oh, I didn't realize you had to cut the mounting bracket. I can't really say if there would be too much vibration or not. As long as there wasn't enough movement to unseat the O-ring, then you should be okay, but I am less sure of this now than I was before I knew the mounting bracket was history.
At this point you really would want to weigh the cost of a new one versus the pain of having to re-do it later..... If in doubt, get a new one unless it is big $$. That might be a junkyard part... How hard to weld a new bracket on? -tp |
I just got a price on a new pipe $200!! I think I'll try to fix the old one.
