380 broken cam chain guide

Hi all have 84 380se with broken cam chain guide, 2nd time in 3years, is this a common fault in v8 merc's, its the L/H head and yes the car has hydraulic shocks.can anyone tell me if there is a beter guide out there other than the normal one. Or any other reason as to why the guide failled.

The only reasons would be chain wear, a bad tensioner or worn sprockets. The sprocket tips should be flat not sharp and would need to be replaced if they are sharp.
