Check engine lite

1995 S-320, W-140 chassis. Displays CKL. Trying to find out how to check for codes. I've called the locate Auto Zone and they only scan 1996 or newer. Does this vehicle have a scanner on board and if it does not will an over the counter scanner work? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

CEL -More info.

More information since my first post. I found what is probably an OBD connection under the left side of the dash. I've also taken a trip to the local AutoZone and looked at the scanners they had on the shelf. I'm wondering if the scanner software is compatible with my vehicle?(1995 S320 W-140 chassis) Again any help greatly appreciated.

I found this information on another forum so you might be in luck. Why not have the Autozone guy connect their scanner to the port to see if it reads any codes?

"Actually, the US 1995 S320 is OBDII compliant. It is one of 2-3 MB models from 1995 that were on an accelerated schedule for OBDII implementation (I suppose for serving as a production test bed before every model had to be OBDII compliant beginning in January 1996). I believe the 1995 SL500 is another one."

That is true, except for the part about the 95 SL500. You can also read codes on the 38 pin connector in the engine compartment with the home built code reader.
