Damaged Piston Advice (pics)
I was cleaning my pistons today and I just spotted this.
It looks like something fell into the engine at some point in its life and got crushed into the top of the piston. You can see the marks on the head (that is after being skimmed too)... What do you guys make of this? It feels sharp to the touch. Need some thoughts and advice. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Those marks don't look much different than the raised lnumbers and letters on the piston. You could hammer the marks flat, or grind them down but personally, I wouldn't worry about them.

Well I was concerned with hot spots...
Think I should carefully sand it down so its no longer sharp?

Sandpaper almost always leaves behind some abrasive residue. I would'nt sand it unless I was 100% sure I could get rid of all that abrasive residue once I was done sanding.

Ditto on the sandpaper warning - you don't want bits of aluminum oxide in there.
If you really feel the need to make them not sharp, perhaps just peening it gently would suffice. -tp |

That would work. Or some wet dry moistened by oil and then wipe it off.
