Later Idle Control Valve in earlier W126. Will it work?

My friend has a new Idle Control Valve he bought for his 1989 420 SEL. Before he could replace it the car was totaled. Does anyone know if this part will work in my 1983 380 SEL?

The one I have on my car is near the end of its useful like. When I clean and lub it, it will be great for a week or so, then the idle starts to increase again.

I have my fingers crossed as he offered it to me for free, but I'm afaid to just try it for fear it will mess something up if it's not compatible.
