Radiator removal and Fan question
I had my fan come off the car and attack my radiator as i started my car after work tonight.
Came off complete with the viscous coupling. My question is what holds that on the car? I want to know what broke to send the fan through the radiator. A diagram would work wonders here. Secondly, a blade broke off the fan and punctured the radiator. I know i'm going to have to replace the radiator. Do I also need to replace the fan. One blade is broken off, so i'm thinking primarily of balance issues here. Edit. 94 E320

If you want to be very, very cheap break another blade off the fan, on the opposite side. You'll loose cooling capacity. I would just buy new of both.

A single bolt with an allan key head holds the Fan and clutch on. There is a " special tool" that holds the assembly taut when tightening up the fan clutch bolt. Had your fan clutch replaced lately? I would be going back to who ever serviced your car and giving them a roasting. Make sure you get a proper Behr radiator. There are erzatz Chinese ones out on the market. Get a new fan. Here is a picture from the DIY section showing the tools required to remove the fan and viscous clutch. |

Check the part number on the fan and clutch, I noticed that the M104 fan is an M103 part. If yours is also, easy to find used.
