Question 1994 - E420 Window problem

Hi All,

I've 1994 Merc. E420. Recently, Rear passenger side window went down and would not come up. When I press button, it gives me some noise, which means motor is ok so I think regulator is broke or damaged. I tried to open the door panel but don't know where to start. Please help.

Thanks in advance

You start with a search!

I searched on "W124 rear door panel"

Found this:

W124 - removing door panel

Good luck!

I had the same problem on my 93. It turned out that the gray plastic piece at the end of the cable snapped off and I couldn't seem to glue it back together with anything--even PC-7.

I checked with the dealer and they said they only sell the whole regulator as a unit, which I think was in the $400 range. I hardly ever use the back windows anyway, so I took a piece of 3/4" PVC pipe and wedged it under the window with the pipe slightly bowed. I cut a 1/4" slot in the top of the PVC so the bottom of the window could rest and not shake loose. If I recall, I might have also safety wired the pipe so it wouldn't move.

That was a number of years ago and I haven't even thought about it until reading your post. If you go this route make sure you disconnect the power to the motor.

May I humbly suggest this thread...

Let's pull the rear door panel on a W124!

Get a new regulator on ebay, it works fine.

Rgds,
Chris W.

Which regulator did everyone get? It looks like there are two different manufacturers. Mine broke today.

TIA

I'm not sure if it's the regulator that broke. The cable I have is just hanging and not attached to anything.

Here is a picture of what's going on with my regulator. I don't think it's a total loss and can be fixed. Something is going on with the cable near the blue wheel, but I don't have a good one to compare with, unless I remove the good side. Anybody know? Thanks
