Wink '79 300CD, did I get taken or clean up?

I'm new to the Benz world, but couldn't resist the good looks of the '79 300CD I picked up. Would like any feedback on street value and lasting possibilities from owners. Cost me $2500, engine seems strong, 120K (odometer not running now?), trans runs well, have taken up to 75 mph. A/C was working, power everything still works, but man are they slow. Outside looks killer! Deep Navy Blue, inside is 75%, tidy but wood could use overhaul and general cosmetic attention to make showroom.

Any feedback is appreciated.
Joe

but what the hey.

Give us more info. Color, wheels etc.
dash cracks, rust..???

More Info

On the information side, please bare with me as I'm not up on the correct Benz lingo.

wheels - great looking hubcaps, match paint on car (navy blue) with big star. the wheels themselves are not much to look at, but hubcaps make it look nice.

operations - runs well so far, I usually run the glow plugs through the ringer twice to ensure a very quick start.

What else can i say? The original Becker radio is in it and it works.

Joe

If you're at a loss for word to describe, let some pictures speak for you. I hear that they are worth at least 1000 words.

Joe,

The diesel coupes are popular with some and tend to be a little more valuable, all things being constant, than the 4-door 300's. Mechanically, the two cars are virtually identical so its all in the look you prefer. I'd say $2500 with 120 k miles is very good deal assuming basics are ok and they sound that way.

Go to diesel forum and search under 300CD. You'll get many hits. For any mechanical questions, look at 300D's and CD's.

Windows are very slow normally. One of the problem areas due to failure of internal window mechanisms but they were slow when new.

Of course I'm biased but to me the coupes have very timeless and classy style.

coup du jour

Yes Joe, you have a nice buggy.
Now go spend a few more bucks and
replace the fluids, have the trans
fluid and filter replaced, buy a spare
glo plug fuse (50 cents) for emergencies,
Check for plugged drain holes and for rust,
have the valve clearances checked
(might as well have the timing chain
slack checked at the same time),
keep an eye on the steering wheel lock
for signs of difficulty, etc.
Indeed, use the archives (search)
on this website.
Get pictures out if you can.
The color sounds great.

Whats the story behind the purchase?

Cheers
