E400, idle surging

1993 3.2L 300E

Hello guys,

Im trying to help my roomate out, of course I am the guy who works on cars got conned into figuring out what's wrong with his car, however, I know nothing of Mercedes...

Here is the problem from what I know,
#1 Basically the car idle surges up and down up and down.

#2 And there is a problem with the gas pedal, when you mash on the pedal, the car doesnt go anywhere, it doesnt rev up, it just doesnt go. You have to let your foot of the gas and press back down on it till it decides to drive.....

The car does not emmitt any Check engine codes, but the bulb may be popped?
This is not an OBD seres computer system so I do not know how to check for the trouble codes..

Im not sure if these 2 problems are related to one specific malfunction, but this is what I have done so far..

Cleaned the MAF sensor ( or whatever Mercedes calls it) The Sensor on the intake pipe.

I checked the throttle cable and it is not sticking or anything, seems to be functioning properly.

My thoughts are TPS sensor, does it have one? Since I do not detect any throttle bodies...
IACV,does it have one?

I guess my first initial step is to find the trouble codes.

Any help is greatly appriciated!

No such thing as an E400 - need to start with an accurate description of the car - year and model. Whatever the year, 92-97, it does have OBD, either I or II.

Well....if its a 400E, the surging could be something as simple as a dirty fuel filter.
The throttle response would have me worried. What you call TPS, they call the ETA.
The MAF sits on top of the manifold (the filter housing sits on it). It is expensive, and in some instances can be cleaned with specially made cleaner.
It could be another victim of low quality wiring harnesses. The insulation on these substandard wires, falls off over time, creating sometimes temporary shorts and whatnot.

If you do a search on ETA and MAF you will find all kinds of info.

As Dean said....state the year of the car, for further help - there is further diagnosis available on those cars.

OBDI on the 16 pin connector near the battery. Try a search - lots of info on building the code reader and reading the fault codes.

Check engine light or not you can check the fault codes on the 16 pin connector by building the fault code reader.
