1993 190E dies OR temporary idle intermittently
Hello all MBZ fans out there.
I have a 1993 190E (USA/California) that dies OR goes into a idle, intermittently. Here are the two cases: 1) I'm driving at any speed and the engine goes into idle for ~10-15 seconds, then dies. No lights come on my console telling me something's wrong until the motor dies, and then they all come on. The motor will NOT start-up for another 2 minutes. I've tried cranking and cranking, to have it fire up after 2 minutes. I've also tried just waiting 2 minutes, and it then fires up. 2) I'm driving and the engine goes into idle for ~10-15 seconds, and then suddenly I get a full return of power. No lights come on my console telling my anythings wrong. It's like I took the foot off the gas for 10-15 seconds, but I didn't. My mechanic (he does only Mercedes) has tried swapping out a computer type of module, then a relay which connects somehow to that same computer module, and today a cable & sensor that somehow senses the position of the motor (goes to the back of the motor & connects to that same computer module). Still the car does the same thing. It could go 4-5 days without the intermittent dying, and then it could happen 2-3 times in a day. I usually do 110 miles a day. There's no connection between engine temperature, empty/full gas tank, type/brand of gas I use (use 91). It doesn't idle rough or run rough. It starts right away. My mechanic doesn't believe it's the fuel pumps - they were both replaced about 7 months ago. Any ideas? Thanks for reading. |
