CE 1st gear?

I am bringing a '93 300CE back from the "brink". Absolutely ghastly maintenance for the last 50K.
Anyway, I noticed that this car has a first gear start. Is that normal for the '93 CE?

Yes, MB used 1st gear start on many 4 & 6 cylinder gas cars starting around 1992...
