E320 wiring harness

Can anyone tell me where the datecode is for these harnesses? I need to see if this particular one has been replaced.

What year? On the '94/'95 the label is near the ECU. On the later models I don't know.

On my cars, it is a tag that is inches from the connector, can be seen between the ECU and the inner-firewall.

Thanks. It would be nice if MB maybe color-coded the replacement harnesses so anyone could just glance at it when buying a used E320 and know the answer to the million dollar question.

Not only did they not color code it I don't think they even date coded it, at least not with the production date.

A harness that has been replaced will have a "FD" dated code after 6/95. . That is a Fabrication date. If the harness has a "ZD" code , that is a Design code and is original.

A.D., is that ZD/FD a sticker on the black clamp-down piece on the ECU or is it permanently etched/printed on that same clamp-down piece? I just bought a new harness at the dealer and this clamp-down piece has a white barcode sticker with a date on it which should fall off in about two-weeks...

I'mplanning on installing the new harness tomorrow. I just went down to my garage to look at the new harness (still in the bag) that I bought from the dealer in December. There is a white sticker wrapped around the wires that reads "Delphi, MB part # 124 xxx xxx, FD 10/10/2008 ZD 07/09/1994" Obviously it's brand new and made in October of 2008. Just confuse the matter, why would they put a ZD with a 1994 date? So, I guess the replacement harnesses have both a FD and ZD?

ZS is design date ...there was a change in the connectors on the harness...that is the late design harness and was Fabricated [ Mnaufacture Dated] on FD 10/10/2008 . Your only concern is the FD date.

Right, so to see if you have the old harness or new one without slicing the tape open, you would have to see this sticker??? I can't see how that sticker would survive an installation - it's barely attached to the harness. There's got to be a better way.

The orig stickers were sewn on.................
All you have to do to look at an old hafrness is to lift the sheathing at the Aux Fan sensor right in front of you........takes about 3 nano- secs...
