throw out bearing

I just got an'81 240D.In neutral with the clutch pedal out I can hear what sounds like the throw out bearing rubbing. When I push in the pedal, the noise stops. Should the bearing be touching the pressure plate with the clutch engaged? Is there a way to free it up or lube the bearing without removing the trans? This car sat for about 5years in dry storage before I got it. I haven't checked the slave or clutch hydrolic cylinders yet. Anyone have any thoughts on this ? Car has about 170000 miles and runs great otherwise. Thanks
