722.6 Hard down shifts after overhaul
Hello
I just completed the overhaul on my 1996 SL600 722.6 transmission. One of the things I did and probably shouldn't have was cleared all adaptation values. The transmission runs fine with the exception of the 2-1 and sometimes 3-2 downshift is hard. I am aware that this particular year had a valve body update to cure the 2-1 problem which I did not do due to cost. But this down shift is sometimes so hard I find it difficult to believe that the transmission ever went into production like this in a Mercedes. I'm thinking maybe it needs time to re-adapt. But how much time is required. Ive already driven the car about 300 miles. Also thanks for all the previous advice I got on this forum in overhauling this transmission.

To "quickly" re-adapt the trans..
You must allow the trans to shift thru the gears keeping the RPM's under 1800 on all shifts. You must do that 4 times & then allow the engine to idle for 10 minutes. If you select each gear manually it will re-adapt quicker.
