Question 1996 C-280 CD Changer??

I have a 1996 C-280, love the car, but would like to install a CD changer in the trunk. The local radio shop won't touch it, although they thought that there was already a cable run to the trunk.

What brands and models of changers will operate through my existing radio controls, yes it has a CD buttom.

Does anybody have a used MB unit for sale that would fit this car and install easily?

Thanks,

Chuck

It is prewired to a changer already (from the factory!). Go to a different Stereo shop and have them do it for you. All you need is the Alpine (same as Mercedes OEM, only w/o the STAR!) 6 disc changer and some sort of adapter?
It can be done... and now with too much hassle. My local circuit city charges I think about $ 440 for EVERYTHING (install and all parts), compared to $ 1k plus at dealership! Good luck.

Dear David:

Thank you. I will check at the local Circuit City. Do you know where the pre-wired cable terminates in the trunk, and what it looks like? I prefer doing my own installation.

Chuck

Chuck,
The prewiring is on the right hand side of the trunk (passenger side). You will have to remove some of the trunk lining to access the cable. Once you have then panel pulled back, look for a connector (if I recall, it looks like a "Parallel" port that you'd normally plug a printer cable in to). I am sure you will need an adaptor which I believe (?) costs about $50. And mounts?
Good luck and keep us updated.
