With computer controlled air-matic OR hydraulic ABC systems..both are available on that car, you need a scanner to diagnosis & erase codes.

With air-matic systems you can hear air leaking in many instances.

Wouldn't an hydraulic system leave tell tale oil spots under the car if that's waht it had and that was the cause?

My 560SEC has the hydraulic SLS and I believe it may have a leak, as I have noticed oil stains recently under the ear of the car.

You are correct about the leak.
But the W220 chassis doesn't have any springs so either an air bladder OR hydraulic oil pressure holds up the car.

No springs? I had no idea that any of them were springless.
