I'm sure this has come up before, but...C280 Check Engine Light

Bloody Hell.

A few weeks back I did some research on the c280 because I had one in my sights - heard about the wiring harness gremlins etc. I guess I'm a sucker, because I believed the supposedly picky shop who did a buyer check for me, AND I trusted the seller a little bit, because he is a co-worker (and lower-level) of my boyfriend.

Five days later, Check Engine light comes on. I'm kind of shaken up!

Could this have ANYthing to do with the fact that the seller had it emission tested 6 days ago? If so, is it just a code fix or???

I really want to take care of this car, but I don't want to mess around chasing problems that aren't real. Any thoughts on this?

XOXOXO
Thanks!

PS

The place that did the buyer check came highly recommended, took 3 hours to do the check, and said the car was really mechanically sound, with only some small oil leaks, a rear window that wouldn't roll up properly, and something else I can't remember. I specifically asked them to check for any wiring harness probs.

Before jumping to bad conclusions......have the system scanned for codes. Many parts stores will scan for FREE.

Even brand new cars can turn on the check engine lamp.

So your car is OBDII, a diagnostic plug under the steering wheel. You should be able to get the codes read at an Autozone, or you can buy an OBDII code reader for $50 to $100 and read them yourself.
