Doors unlock when hitting bumps

I have a 98 SL500 and the doors will unlock when I hit a fairly hard bump (like a really bad expansion joint). Doesn't happen on normal bumps, but only on the ones that you think "wish I'd missed that one". Once they're unlocked, they won't relock until you turn the ignition completely off, remove the key, put the key back in and turn until the dash lights come on...at that point they are back to working normally. Any ideas?

Perhaps the shock of hitting a bump is jarring a relay or control module/plug loose somewhere? And it reboots it when restarting the car? That is my best guess....

Not sure... unfortunately, I am a fanatic when it comes to missing rough pavement and thankfully around here, the roads are fairly good.

Sounds like Pawo is onto something... sounds like something is loose, jarring.

Could be a door contact switch.

Thanks all...I'll start with the door switch I think and go from there. I forgot to say that there is always a consistent delay of about ten seconds from the time I hit the bump until the doors unlock. I thought maybe there was something to automatically unlock the doors a few seconds after an accident. Anyone think that might be a possibility and the shock of the bump is making it activate?
