Question Mercedes W124 280E 1994 Coils Cover panel

Just bought another old merc. Cover panel missing. Could this have been removed on purpose to avoid heat? Is that a good idea?

No, the valve cover has a ram air port from the cooling fan and the coil cover has heat exchanges for the coils. Keeping the cover on over the coils will provide better cooling (for the coils) then leaving it off.

Thanks Ben
I have sourced a cover from a breaker and put it on..
Now I'm trying to find out if I can change the boot lock so that it is the same as the one on my last w124 1990 model on which you could lock the boot independently from the doors. On this 94 car the key won't stay at the 3'oclock position. D'you reckon \I could solve this by replacing the barrel?
