I think I fried something...
Hi All,
I'm new to this forum but have been a member of benzworld.org for a while. I have a problem with my 1992 230E which no one could help me with there... The link to that thread is here http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w124-e-ce-d-td-class/1443046-i-think-i-fried-something.html I am hoping someone here can help me...please! Thanks, Jase |
Pin # 1 of the diagnostic plug is connected to the RPM output of the EZL.
Could have damaged that signal that goes to the fuel pump relay. You could see if by jumping that fuel pump relay the engine would stay running. |

Ok, what is the EZL? At the moment I do have to jump my fuel pump relay to get the car running. What would the fix be? Thanks, Jase |
The EZL is the ignition module.
You either shorted the output signal from the EZL or damaged the fuel pump relay. |

when you jump the fp relay to keep running does the tachometer work? if so it's the relay that needs replacing not the ezl and of course the opposite is also true.

Where is the EZL located and how would I verify the it's not working? Also is there a known way to repair it. I work at an electronics company so I could get a guy here to change a component or two if we had the schematics. Thanks for all the replies guys! You've been great! Jase |
Go to the junkyard for ezl. they are expensive through dealer.
|
the ezl provides the spark for the engine,it also provides a signal called TD.this signal runs the tach and keeps the fuel pump relay in after cranking.it also tells the fuel inj computer how fast the engine is running.
|
Jase, the EZL is mounted on the left front fender liner. If you get a new one be sure that the white heat conducting paste is still intact; otherwise, buy some at Radio Shack. The heat conducting paste is critical to the longevity of the EZL ... plus routine replacement/maintenance of the spark plugs, distributor cap & rotor, and the ignition wires.

Thanks for all the help guys! I found a second hand EZL (ignition module) for R450 (+- $55). I'm going to go during the week to test it out. I'll let you guys know the outcome.
Thanks, Jason P.S. Bad news is when I thought it was the Fuel Pump Relay I had a guy try fix it. With that relay the pump now doesn't even run at all to prime the jets when the ignition is switched on :( I think he tried to fix a solder joint that didn't need fixing and he stuffed it up. I'll try get a guy at work to look at it and hopefully sort it out....wish me luck! |
Jase, I'm unfamiliar with right hand drive cars, but I suspect the EZL is on the left front fender liner regardless. Since you have a picture of the EZL it will be obvious where it is once you open the hood.
