Just lost all gears!
My car has suddenly lost all gears. Was working fine not too long ago, then without warning, erratic shifting and now I can barely get the car into drive. It will drive in first or second gear only.....which means that the cars revs really high (about 3000 rpm) before it starts moving and the rpms are high, but I'm still only doing about 35-40 mph.

Check the automatic trans fluid level. You may have a leak. If the level is down by a quart or more (sometimes less) the car will not move until high RPMs.

Thanks. I'm going to add some lucas to it. I drained some fluid earlier because I thought I had too much fluid.

I was able to look under the car and see that my transmission mount is completely disintegrated..... could this be why my gears aren't working? Transmisssion maybe misaligned or something?

Check fluid, but it could be the linkage has shifted to neutral because of the rear mount.

More than likely the bad mount has caused the gear linkage to be way out of it's normal position, meaning the transmission is not shifted into any gear. Check the fluid also as mentioned before. Also smell the fluid on the dipstick. It should not smell burned.

Fluid does not smell burnt. Got a sample of it and it is red....looks brand new actually. How do I go about fixing the linkage? Also, I just read on another site that someone had this problem with the same model as mine and they claimed it was the hose that goes from the air cleaner to the crankcase??? I'm not sure I understand how that works, but could there be some truth to that? It seems strange that I would just all of a sudden lose all my gears. I will attempt to fix the problem tomorrow by seeing if I could at least get the car to move. So I guess I'll have to take the day off work

get a jack and jack tranny back up,then replace mount.Hopefully thats your issue.Though sudden failure all gears sounds like its something simple.MBs most of the time lose reverse first
