Another AC question.

i had a thread on here awhile ago about how to check if your refrigerant level is low.

i have a 86 190E 2.3-16.

i remember something about a viewing window on the dryer. but i don't remeber what i should be looking for. something about bubbles

GregoryV022 07-09-2009 08:20 PM

...and you "Bumped" it within 60 seconds ?????

Look for bubbles to clear for full charge indication at Eyesight.

Your Welcome.

GregoryV022 07-09-2009 08:34 PM

hey. i didn't mean that to come out the way that did.

i have a bad habit of venting on the internet. something i need to learn to stop doing.

im sorry about this

please forgive me.

Arthur Dalton 07-09-2009 08:39 PM

Yeah.... Me too.. Sorry Pal.

I have been here way too long and I am on count-down to my 10 Years date , so I am just venting all these little things that have turned me nasty .....:):)

I will be out of here shortly. Thank goodness.

GregoryV022 07-09-2009 08:43 PM

naw man. don't leave. your posts are some of the best.

i just checked for bubbles and didn't see any. but then again i didn't see anything in there period. no liquid or anything.

glad were "friends" again

Arthur Dalton 07-09-2009 08:47 PM

If it is empty, you will see nothing right from start-up.

But if it is low, you will see many bubbles...and if it is full , you will see bubbles for the first min and it will then clear up as it runs/cools.

You can verify if it is empty by simply taking the charging port cap off and pushing the little valve stem in...If No pressure , you are empty.........

GregoryV022 07-10-2009 01:31 AM

i checked the pressure at the charge port. there was definitely pressure because i got spewed with that wonderful yellow colored stuff. i hope it isn't toxic.

so now that i know i have pressure. but the ac still doesn't work. how can i check if the compressor comes on.

LarryBible 07-10-2009 05:59 AM

You did not check pressure. If there is even one ounce in the system it will spew when venting the valve.

To check pressure use a set of manifold gauges on both the low and high sides, let a/c run full blast for five minutes with engine running 1500 RP to stabilize pressures. THEN post the low and high pressures and ambient temperatures. That is the only way to get a meaningful diagnosis.

ya i know. i wrote my first post in a fit of frustration. i didn't it to sound the way i did.

we all wish we are getting paid. for this.

where can i get said gauges.

LarryBible 07-10-2009 06:23 PM

If your system is unmodified, you can get a set of gauges at a local a/c supply house. If it has been converted to 134 you will need a different set and it can be purchased at almost any auto supply. If you are not experienced in a/c, however, you need to buy a book and read up on the basic principles so that you will know what to do with the gauges.
