If it is empty, you will see nothing right from start-up.

But if it is low, you will see many bubbles...and if it is full , you will see bubbles for the first min and it will then clear up as it runs/cools.

You can verify if it is empty by simply taking the charging port cap off and pushing the little valve stem in...If No pressure , you are empty.........

i checked the pressure at the charge port. there was definitely pressure because i got spewed with that wonderful yellow colored stuff. i hope it isn't toxic.

so now that i know i have pressure. but the ac still doesn't work. how can i check if the compressor comes on.

You did not check pressure. If there is even one ounce in the system it will spew when venting the valve.

To check pressure use a set of manifold gauges on both the low and high sides, let a/c run full blast for five minutes with engine running 1500 RP to stabilize pressures. THEN post the low and high pressures and ambient temperatures. That is the only way to get a meaningful diagnosis.

We will try to help you, but none of us are paid to do so. Please be patient and a tone of appreciation is always helpful to your cause when getting help from volunteers.

If your system is unmodified, you can get a set of gauges at a local a/c supply house. If it has been converted to 134 you will need a different set and it can be purchased at almost any auto supply. If you are not experienced in a/c, however, you need to buy a book and read up on the basic principles so that you will know what to do with the gauges.
