Timing Chain Press Tool Question/ Single row chain

I'm getting ready to do a timing chain in my 84 190E with the early type single row chain. I see the proper 'press tool' available from several houses, and it is advertised as a double row press.

Do I really need the 'single row ' adapter for the tool (another 50 bucks) , or can I get away without it and just tighten farther with the basic press?

(basic press tool part # 000 589 58 43 00, and single row chain adapter #103 589 01 63 00)

On my 87 300E, I used a chain press for motorcycles. It worked perfectly. I bought it at the local Kawasaki/Suzuki dealer- about $90
